Our School Day begins….

The school grounds are open from 8:35am for parents and children to start arriving. The children enter the school building from 8:40am to 8:50am start their morning learning activity. This provides a smooth transition into school, whilst addressing congestion issues within the village. Gates are locked at 8:50am, when class registers are taken.

The school is open from 8:40am until 3:15pm. This amounts to 32 hours 55 minutes in a typical week, including breaks, but not after-school activities.

Children who arrive after 8:50am will need to go to the school office, with their parent, to sign in.

Please note that, for safety reasons, bikes, scooters and tricycles for children or their siblings may not be brought onto the school playground. Please leave these in the Bike Rack at the rear entrance (School Road) or at the front of school beyond the gates.

Assembly

Assemblies take place daily. Current law requires all state-funded schools to hold daily acts of ‘Collective Worship’, ‘mainly of a broadly Christian character’. At Wisborough Green, these will include elements drawn from a number of different faiths, moral teaching based on our seven values, singing, celebrations of achievements and assemblies with a PSHCE focus.

Each Friday, during our whole-school celebration assembly, effort and attainment is recognised in each class and the grand total for Team Points is announced along with the winner of the weekly PTA Cake Raffle.

Playtime

The children have opportunities for free play during the school day. Our morning break is at 10.15am for Key Stage One (Years 1 and 2) and 10.40am for Key Stage Two (Years 3 to 6). The children have another break at lunchtime and KS1 have an afternoon break if needed.

Children in Reception and KS1 are provided with a free piece of fruit or vegetable through the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme (SFVS). Children in KS2 are encouraged to bring their own healthy snack from home. We ask that parents and carers refrain from sending food containing nuts to school in order to minimise risk to children with food allergies.

We have excellent play facilities and beautiful grounds for the children to explore including a tyre park and trim trail. Our Positive Play Leaders organise games for the children to play, using a range of equipment provided.

Lunch

Lunchtime is organised into staggered sittings from 11:45am to 12.35pm. The children eat their lunch in the School Hall, supervised by our team of Midday Meals Supervisors. Many of our children eat a hot lunch provided by Chartwells, please see below for a sample menu. Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be entitled to a free hot lunch. All hot lunches (including UFSM and FSM) must now be booked solely by the parent/carer, via the ParentPay app. If you do not have a login, please contact the school office. We ask that parents and carers refrain from sending food containing nuts to school in order to minimise risk to children with food allergies.

Children have an hour to eat their lunch and play outside. Our dedicated Play Leader facilitates a range of different activities designed to encourage active play, teamwork and co-operation.

Our School Day finishes at 3.15 pm

Children leave their class in time for 3.15pm collection. The children collect their belongings, leaving their classroom and cloakroom tidy, and then leave the building with their teacher. We encourage children to remember their own belongings in order to develop independence and responsibility.

The school gates are opened just before then so that parents can collect their children from the playground. Parents need to inform the School Office (by email or telephone) before 2:30pm if someone else is collecting their child.

Children in Years 5 and 6 may walk to and from school by themselves with parental permission. Please contact the School Office via email if this is the case.

To make sure that we keep everyone safe at the beginning and end of the school day and that everyone is accounted for, please ensure that any children in your care do not use the play equipment - including the tyres and trim trail - at this time. Many thanks for your support and cooperation.

Appointments

We strongly encourage open communication and value the input parents make to the school. We believe that any worries, questions or concerns about your child or their education are addressed most effectively through immediate dialogue.  If parents need to discuss any issues with a member of staff, class teachers are available in the playground at the end of each day and senior leaders each morning. Alternatively, an appointment may be made via the School Office for either a face-to-face or telephone appointment. Urgent messages may also be left at the School Office during the school day and will be dealt with as soon as possible.

parking and one way system

During term time, a voluntary one-way system is in place to ease congestion around the school. This is in place when entering School Road from the pond entrance off the A272 between the times of: 8.30am—9.15am and 3.00pm—3.45pm.

We ask that parents and carers park legally and drive carefully, paying respect to residents and other road users at all times. Parking is available at the Village Hall and outside The Three Crowns. Please consider walking to school wherever possible.

The school car park is for staff and invited visitors only.
